Shade first, then colour
A patio that bakes from noon until seven needs structure before flowers. We place taller pots and climbers to cast usable shade on seating, then fill lower tiers with heat-tolerant colour that can be watered from a single hose route.
Gravel, tile, and raised beds each hold heat differently. We adjust soil depth and mulch so roots do not cook while surfaces stay pleasant under bare feet after dusk.
Climbing routes on old walls
Many Seville courtyards still show limewash and stone that should not be drilled carelessly. We prefer freestanding frames and tension wires fixed into mortar joints only where permission and structure allow.
Jasmine, bougainvillea, and trained vines are chosen for the wall’s orientation. North walls get gentler climbers; south walls need tougher stems and deeper pots that do not dry out by midweek.
